I’m watching TV, and there’s this commercial for “Monster Ballads: Platinum Edition.”
And first of all, WTF? There’s a platinum edition?
And secondly… oh crap. I know EVERY WORD. To EVERY SONG.
By the way, did y’all know that there are hair metal videos available in iTunes?
How ’bout those Steelers, huh? “Oh great, the most accurate kicker ever in the NFL is setting up for a field goal…. OMGWTFBBQ!!1!!one!!eleventy-one! WIDE RIGHT!”
Meanwhile, I’m coming down with something- I’ve got a fever and sore throat, and I want chicken soup, but the only ingredients I have are broth and noodles… And it just happens to be during Tom’s week-long business trip out west, so it’s just me and the cats. *sigh*
A Very Macworld Wedding: Now why didn’t we think of this?
This is Ron Jeremy, seeing Goatse for the first time.
(Mom, don’t Google, okay?)
My blog was down for a bit due to the unexpected expiration of quibbling.net’s domain registration. I say unexpected, because I hadn’t received any noticed about it. It seems that my mac.com address ate the notifications, since it just auto-deletes anything it thinks is spam. Also known as, “Why you should never trust any spam filter that just deletes your mail without showing it to you first.” They have not yet come up with the filter that categorizes my email as well as I do.
I wasn’t planning to renew my .Mac membership anyway- it’s a fine package of services for someone who isn’t interested in spending the time and geekiness to go out and find better alternatives for web/photo hosting, backup space, online bookmarks, etc. But I don’t use it enough to justify the $100/year. Now I note, however, that .Mac is going to be down for a few hours tomorrow, which happens to coincide almost exactly with the time that His Steveness is going to be delivering the keynote at Macworld Expo, which as Tom explains, is a massive and important event in the life of any Mac geek, the day when The Steve displays his blessings to the faithful.
And so I reserve judgment.
And in unrelated news…
OMG GO STEELERS!!!!
After the holidays, where we spent two weeks doing very little cooking, Tom and I returned to the kitchen with a vengeance. We’ve had pork roast, lasagna, braciole (stuffed, rolled flank steak) and then there was tonight’s recipe.
On New Year’s Eve, Tom and I went to Tapas Teatro in Baltimore, to hang out with some friends. While there, we tried their albondigas, lamb meatballs in a tomato-curry sauce. They were delicious, and we resolved to try to make them ourselves.
Of course, the recipe was a creation of the chef, so we’ve had to wing it completely. And while my first attempt tonight wasn’t exactly what I remembered, it was still quite tasty and a pretty good representation of the dish.
I had just under a pound and a half of ground lamb, which I combined with some breadcrumbs (I needed more than I usually do for beef meatballs), about a half tablespoon of rosemary, a little minced onion and garlic, and some salt. I roll my meatballs to about an inch and a half in diameter, and bake them at 350 for half an hour.
For the sauce, I melted about a tablespoon of butter and added some curry powder- enough to turn the butter bright orange-yellow. I started stirring in a small can of plain tomato sauce. As that heated through, I added another tablespoon of butter, more curry powder, a bit of hot paprika, a pinch of salt, and a bit of garlic powder (for when you want garlic-ness without the lumps). Basically, I just kept adding curry powder until I had the flavor I wanted, but I found that letting the lamb meatballs warm in the sauce helped mellow the tomato flavor quite a bit.
It’s definitely something I’ll try again and work on perfecting.
My mom tried to teach me to knit when I was a kid. It didn’t take.
But I’m thinking I might try to learn again- I use the web for most of my self-expression, but lately I’m feeling the need to start making tangible things as an outlet…. The Post has an item about how to knit a Lucky Number 13 Starter Scarf.
