You GO girls!

Via Joseph, a heartwarming story about teenage girls taking a strong position against predatory behavior.

Here’s a guy who will be rethinking his Catholic schoolgirl fetish.

Fellow kufr, rejoice! Allah has moved to his own domain and MT-powered blog!

That means you can now read him in your favorite RSS feed-reader.

Panther and Printing to Windows

Thursday, October 30th, 2003

So, I learned something interesting about Panther today.

I was trying to print a document to a printer that’s plugged into a Windows XP box at the office today, and was completely unable to. I tried messing about with the new Printer Setup Utility, to no avail. The PSU makes it much, much easier to add a Windows shared printer to your printer list than it was under Jaguar (which was a combination of command-line and browser-based interface hell), but for some reason I couldn’t print, no matter what I did.

So, after some Googling and poking about on the Apple support fora, I came across this blessed little fix.

As it turns out, if you install Panther via a Upgrade install, as opposed to an Archive-and-Install or a clean install, and then run Repair Permissions, the print system breaks. Badly. This program fixes it, but will wipe out all your installed printers. I reinstalled them in about 2 minutes, and was printing away in no time.

There’s more discussion of the issue in this Apple forum thread.

(BTW, apparently the upgrade install is not recommended for Panther, clean or archive installs are better, but I’m enough of a Mac n00b that I didn’t know that at a time. Learn from my mistake. To be fair, however, this is the only problem I’ve encountered so far and I’ve been using Panther for work and at home for a week now on my upgrade install.)

Crap by any other name…

By the way, remember when I told you to stay away from Gator? Well, now it’s changing its name to Claria to fool you. So stay away from that, too.

For my non-geeky readers, check out this article on RSS and why it’s extra terrific.

Those of you who are geeky probably already know this stuff, and many of you are probably already reading my little ramblings via RSS.

Domesticity

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

Yesterday, when I left work, I didn’t go out and get the supplies I needed to work on the apartment. I was feeling sort of crappy and all I wanted in the world was a cup of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.

But it gave me some time to come up with more things to put on my To Do list- so when I go out, I need a curtain rod and some extra braces. I have an idea for the living room. :) I am feeling very Trading Spaces today…

And another one….

It’s a bad year to be famous. Rod Roddy, the announcer on “The Price is Right,” died.

It’s not like my name is Shaniqua…

Dear Potential Vendors:

When you are trying to win my business, the price and the quality of your product are of course important. But so is your attention to detail when submitting estimates to me.

To this end, please note, my name is spelled “Tiffany,” not “Tiffiney.”

Love,
me
